What is SemantEx?

SemantEx is an artificial intelligence tool that uses natural language processing (NLP) methodology to extract meaning from the written word. SemantEx is designed to analyse large or small data sets. Our rules-based system can also be applied to any type of data set, whether structured or un-structured.

How does it work?

SemantEx is built on a rules-based natural language parser, a series of language focussed graph data bases and an extensible, domain targetable knowledge base. This allows SemantEx to be applicable across a wide range of data sets, in any sector or service.

Why is it better?

Neural networks require large amounts of training data which is often domain specific, this makes them computationally ‘heavy’ and difficult to deploy in new environments, particularly where sensitive data is involved. Our rules based system does not carry these problems.

Mike is a PhD level mathematical modeller and systems engineer specialising in machine learning and natural language processing. Recent work includes: implementation of an innovative deep natural language parser and learned ontology system, Bayesian networks for natural language generation and advanced statistical modelling and machine learning techniques.

Alan is an experienced Non Executive Director with expertise of working in the care and health sectors. He has worked across organisational boundaries and in politically sensitive contexts. He has been working with a number of social care providers to embrace the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence to help improve care and support.

Brothers-in-law Mike and Alan founded SemantEx so we could bring our complimentary skill sets together for a social purpose. That purpose is to ensure that artificial intelligence is used responsibly and ethically  to improve lives and community cohesion.

We have been working closely with Home-From-Home-Care (HFHC), a specialist social care provider. We are using SemantEx to analyse their big data to refine our methodological approach to content extraction, question answering and classification.

SemantEx reveals patterns of behaviour which, when interpreted, can improve care and/or raise alarms. SemantEx can be used for optimisation in areas such as recruitment and development, rostering and health and care gain.

We are working with DIEManalytics who have transcript texts which are being run through SemantEx to generate network graphs. These network graphs are developed into a visualisation which considers emphasis/influence;  for example two people making the same connection, represented by the weighting of the link.
